Why Choose Medical Abortion? A medical abortion uses two medications — mifepristone and misoprostol — to end a pregnancy up to 11 weeks. Many patients choose this option because it: • Allows the process to happen in a familiar, private space • Avoids anesthesia or surgical instruments • Can often be completed with telehealth and mailed medication • Feels more natural, similar to a heavy period or early miscarriage This method is well-studied and considered extremely safe when overseen by licensed clinicians, which is exactly what we provide at Meadow. Two Ways to Access Care Every patient’s situation is unique, so we provide two equally safe pathways: • Telehealth with mail delivery: Complete your consultation virtually and receive medications shipped discreetly to your address. • In-person visits at our McLean clinic: Meet face-to-face with our care team, review your health history, and receive medications on the same day. Both options come with thorough instructions and direct access to our staff for follow-up questions, ensuring you never feel left on your own. Traveling from Charleston, WV to McLean, VA If you choose an in-person visit, traveling from Charleston to McLean is simpler than most people expect. Driving takes around five and a half hours, following major highways with plenty of stops along the way. Many patients plan it as a day trip or stay overnight in one of the hotels near our clinic. Flying is also an option. Yeager Airport offers flights connecting to Washington Dulles International Airport. Once you land, the clinic is about a 20-minute drive, making same-day appointments realistic for many travelers. What to Expect During Care The process begins with a consultation — virtual or in person — where we review your medical history, confirm pregnancy dating, and explain what to expect. If you proceed with medical abortion, you’ll take the first medication (mifepristone) as directed, then follow with misoprostol at home. We provide written instructions, information on expected symptoms, and guidance on when to contact us.
